Rebecca
Driven out by the sound of bagpipes, I took my place in the hall,
Where I met her for the first time, as she propped up the wall.
It was her sister's wedding, and this was her home,
I spent the evening fiddling and forgot to burn Rome.
Oh, Rebecca
She had those porcelain features, that grace cats and unicorns
Perched atop the cisterns of the aged and the lovelorn
I told her I’d an itch to scratch, she took me at my word
And offered up a pair of hands as safe as Douglas Hurd’s
Oh, Rebecca
Too many men turn a blind eye
To overdressed Godivas
But I thought that I'd lose my mind
When she spoke of no survivors
She pencilled me in for the summer, I cancelled a meeting or two
Crushed in the linen cabinet, she towelled off my tattoos
She was the love of a lunchtime and I a folksinger’s lament
Couldn’t tell you how to spell it, let alone what it all meant
Oh, Rebecca
Oh, Rebecca
