Idiot's Refrain
We all know that life is a joke
That nobody ever tells right
The playing card stuck through the spokes
Worth more than the birthday boy's bike
But that's no excuse
for pretending you're ready
And willing to shoulder the blame
You're prepared to weather
The whips and the leather
Secure in the knowledge you're already tame
It's an idiot's refrain
Patience is virtuous, up to the point
Where her knickers collide with the floor
A bright neon sign hanging over her head
That flickers twixt mother and whore
You'd take her roughly,
But not home to meet Mum and Dad
Lest they die of the shame
In fact if you hadn't
Been counting cold showers
You would have already forgotten her name
It's an idiot's refrain
Save me, from my own hypocrisy
Take me to task, for I’m no better now than I ought to be
I take the world apart
Then complain it's not what it used to be
And always end up falling back
On this eloquent idiocy
Now you’re living your life
Like you're trying to disprove
That the pen's mightier than the pork sword
All set to hate yourself
For your disgraceful behaviour
But knowing you'll just end up bored
Still spurious wisdom,
Makes sparkling bar talk
You always speak easy and plain
In fact, you could set the world right
With a word
But as usual,
you're far too pissed to explain
It's an idiot's refrain
