Would You Buy A Bible From This Man?
Saturday morning,
A cartoon mouse roaring
Across the inside of the screen
A boy's tie has been fastened
His shoes have been blackened
His face has been spit-hankied clean
There are souls to be saved
From the sting of the grave
There's a stack of this week's magazines
But as Tom and Jerry race
Storm-clouds cross Father's face
And he can't keep his eyes from flitting between
Is that the world in the palm of his hand?
Would you buy a Bible from this man?
Hand under the covers
He summons up lovers
His face like the Sea of Tranquility
Prays for temptation
To ease his frustration
But he knows he won't get off so easily
He quotes a mean Scripture
But can't help but picture
His personal Saviour impaled
He'd wear that thorny crown
Jodhpurs, a dressing gown
Just so long as he ends up getting nailed
Is that the world in the palm of his hand?
Would you buy a Bible from this man?
Something inside him has snapped like, a cheap rubber band
He will where they won't, cause if he does or don't, he'll be damned
Aurora borealis
Once filled him with malice
And he raged as the sky turned to flame
But once those doubts flowered
From Forster to Coward
He knew that he'd never be quite the same
Dressed up like Johnny Cash
He boards the plane, doubles-back
The night before rewinds to day
But as the wheels touch the ground
He hears those trumpets sound
Who parked those four horsemen on the runway?
Is that the world in the palm of his hand?
Would you buy a Bible from this man?
Is that the world in the palm of his hand?
Would you buy a Bible from this man?
